Why oh WHY 2005?!

Hi Everyone,

So, we decided that the older posts were more important and decided to go ahead and restore them and the accounts from pre-2005. It's a shame that we don't have anything newer, but that's life I guess. So, if you had a user account back then your account is still available and you can start using it right away. If you did not have an account back then, feel free to re-register. We've got 5 packages available that are fairly easy to obtain, most are focused around reputation so it doesn't require a lot of posting, it's the content of your posts that we're looking for.

We've also made a lot of other changes, one of those being you can now use Ruby on Rails (Version 2.3.14) from your cPanel account. This decision was not taken lightly, but it is a thought that why should you only learn PHP here? We're working on making it where not only can you work on your PHP, but you can also work on ASP, ASP.NET, Ruby on Rails, Perl, and more! Your one-stop place to get your feet wet in many scripting languages.

To prevent future data loss, we've now created a backup system. This backup system is "round robin" meaning the more data, the longer the backup takes. It works non-stop transmitting data to external hard drives here at my house. Basically it FTPs it to my drives, and ensures your websites, email accounts, etc. are all backed up on a regular basis. So let me go in a little and explain how that works. Basically, let's say there is 40 accounts on the server. It starts from the oldest account to the newest account and gzips up each account's "cPanel" data, meaning the user, home dir, databases, email accounts, ruby applications, etc; then it uses the highest compression possible before transmitting it over sFTP to my computer, where the backups stay for up to 3 backup cycles. Meaning should you corrupt a file and not realize it, and say.. a month passes, you can go to the backup before that just to get that one file (with help from me, or another admin, that is).

Hi Everyone!

So, after some major downtime and a lot of delays we're back up and running. You'll notice a few big details though. You'll have to recreate your account on the forum as all of the data is missing. Nothing is recoverable after the last outage but we won't let that cause us to dig our graves! Second, the packages have changed (for the better), which gives you more opportunities to better your skills. Third, we fully manage our own hosting now, which means as new features in PHP, etc. need to be brought on board, we can get it sooner, it also means the latest versions of PHP & MySQL versus using the old versions that web hosts typically give you. All in all, we hope that the benefits out weight the fact that all the data is gone and you have to start from scratch.

Since we would have to go back to 2005 in any of the backups, we've elected not to restore. 2005 is a long time off, and things have changed since then. We hope you understand. We have, however, upgraded our forum software from the v3.x to v4.x, so lots of enhancements and changes there.

Once again, Welcome back!
